Orpheus and the Underworld

Orpheus in the Underworld

A journey to Hell and back unlike any other, "Orpheus in the Underworld" is "Saturday Night Live" meets Greek myth set to music that will have you dancing in your seat!

Those familiar with "Hadestown," "Moulin Rouge" and the Percy Jackson franchise will feel right at home in the Underworld.

A comedic katabasis filled with characters from Greek and Roman mythology, "Orpheus in the Underworld" will explore the Orphic myth like you've never seen before. Offenbach's first opera was written as a satirical lampoon against the court of Emperor Napoleon III, but feels just as relevant now as it did when it premiered in 1858.

In this opera, we follow Eurydice and Orpheus through infidelity, death and a not-so-welcome reunion with plenty of shenanigans along the way, guided by the intimidating force of Public Opinion, the embodiment of social expectations.
