The , an elementary school created through the LeBron James Family Foundation and Akron Public Schools, is now wrapping up its first school year and winning praise in places like for early measures of success. Baldwin Wallace alumna Kay Low '88 is an intervention specialist whose role is an important component of fulfilling the school's mission.

The says the school aims to serve "students who are at-risk in reading and who are in need of additional academic intervention before falling further behind their peers." Low is playing a key part in that initiative.

"I am excited to be working at the I Promise School as an intervention specialist," said Low. "We are becoming a new model for urban public education. It was the toughest interview I've done, and the work is challenging, but very worth it. It is amazing to see the change and progress in the students after even just a few weeks."

She has a master's degree in education administration from The Ohio State University in addition to her Bachelor of Science in Education from BW.

"My experiences in the education department taught me to be self-reflective and to always look for ways to improve my craft. This has served me well throughout my career. BW's model of excellence in education and relationships is something that became a part of me," said Low.
